Have you ever had a Mothers Day celebration gone wrong ? When I first moved to Norfolk with my wife I couldn’t find my way to my job let alone to a good spot for moms day. The first moms day we spent in Norfolk Virginia was at home eating a roast I managed to burn. Trust me when I say my new wife was understanding but underwhelmed. 1. Botanical Gardens in Norfolk - The Botanical Gardens in Norfolk is an amazing display of nature in the city. It has wide open spaces, wooded areas, and flowers gardens of all sorts to explore. Its our number one place to take your mom for Mothers Day because it has the widest appeal. If your mom likes roses ( and who’s mom doesn’t really ? ) this is a sure thing.
2. The Painted Lady - Tea and Crumpets please ! This teahouse is constructed from two renovated Victorian homes. The menu is tops, with food for everyone including the kids ( ask for the “Teddy Bear Tea” ). If mom loves Victorian architecture try this.. but be sure to call in advance because this is strictly reservation only.
3. Free Mason Abbey - If mom just needs a unique and classy dining experience then dining in a church is the best option. Tea and Crumpets might be a bit much for mom. Free Mason Abbey is a spectacular steak house that has been built in 200 year old church. Sit and dine in this divine place of worship.
4. Chrysler Museum - Fine art, hushed conversation and memories that last are what you can expect if you take mom here. Fine and Contemporary art are on display here including sculptures, paintings, and glass work. The Chrysler Museum is a perfect place to take your mom for special one on one time year round but especially on her special day.
5. Hunter House Victorian Museum - Does mom love the romance of Victorian history? The Hunter House Victorian Museum will immerse you in the world as it was in the late Victorian period.
6. Norfolk Zoo - Do you need a place to take mom that will keep the kids busy? Of course you do and the zoo is a great place to go. It has beautiful gardens and exciting animals to keep every one entertained. Mom and the kids will enjoy this family trip.
