Virginia Protecting Children
Housing and Urban Development Secretary Alphonso Jackson announced today that $3.4 Million will be received by three Virginia organizations to aid on the protection of children and their families from lead and various other hazards in the home.
A $2 million Operation Lead Elimination Action Program has been awarded to the national program of United Parents Against Lead, Inc. in Richmond; a $999,663 Healthy Homes Demonstration Grant has been issued to Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk; and a $404,714 HUD Lead Based Paint Hazard Reduction Grant has been awarded Edenspace Systems Corporation of Chantilly.
These HUD grants are just a few of the $168 Million given to local communities around the country to aid in the improvement of conditions for families living in low income housing.
Jackson states that “The funding we announce today will help protect children from dangerous lead, fund important research into healthier housing and will create other public and private investment to improve the living conditions of thousands of homes.”
