The Norfolk International Airport is smaller and less busy than most major
hubs so expect a faster than usual transit through the airport. There are as
many as two hundred flights transit through the airport in Norfolk daily. This
makes it the most active airport in Hampton Roads of the two you may select
from in the region. Since it is the most active you will likely be using this
airport if you are going anywhere by plane.
The area where the Norfolk airport is is very scenic. Planes land over the
ocean and take off going inland. The landings allow for a beautiful view of
Hampton Roads and the Norfolk International Airport if you have a window seat.
Also, the airport is located right next to the Norfolk Botanical Gardens which
are most beautiful in the summer and fall. If you have a layover here in the
summer for more than a few hours it might be worth a visit to kill some time.
Norfolk Airport; Snacks and Convience
Restaurants at the airport and shops located in a court area that is the terminus
of all the gates. The airport restaurants are limited in selection and quality
but sufficient. You have a selection of fast food and a few snack counters which.
The shops are limited to a touristy type stand selling Virginia memorabilia
and a magazine store selling the usual assortment of items at airport stores.
